Tram tickets can be purchased online or at the Tram Center, located at 490 South Franklin Street, downtown Juneau. When your cruise ship arrives at the port, you will disembark at the cruise ship dock, which is located in the middle of downtown Juneau. The Juneau cruise port is conveniently located within walking distance of downtown Juneau.
Make sure to be on the outside deck to enjoy the scenery about an hour before arrival and an hour after departure. We notice that even the weather forecast is wrong all the time and weather can change rapidly. Compared to the cost of the Mendenhall shuttle bus it will be cheaper to take a taxi if your group is 4 persons or more. Both new berths don't provide (for now) shore-to-ship power as Alaska Electric Light and Power (Juneau's power utility) currently can't supply visiting vessels. If you want to experience something unique we highly recommend an excursion by helicopter to the Mendenhall glacier. Hangar on the Wharf is an excellent option for lunch or dinner. As its name implies, it’s built from an old airplane hangar and located on Juneau’s wharf. You’ll enjoy an amazing seafood selection and a craft beer menu features 125 selections.
Keep in mind that the flights are organized in groups of 3 to 4 passengers at a time depending on the weight, including one person in the front and a maximum of 3 in the back. This is a fjord known for its dramatic sheer cliffs, waterfalls and some of Alaska’s largest ice bergs that just fell of the face of the North and South Sawyer glaciers.
The famous preseverance trail is a 3 mile long (one-way) trail with an elevation of 700 feet. Perseverance is the name of a mine that used to be located here. Along the way you will see the remains of the mine, the Last Chance Mining Museum, the Exner Falls and Gold Creek. Visit the visitors information centre to check the latest update on the track and to pick up the hiking map.
